DualPass:  Maintenance and Cleaning Guide

Cleaning the reader

Clean the reader regularly to ensure proper performance.

  • Use only the cleaning tool that is supplied with the reader.

  • Do not apply abrasive cleaners or solvents to the cleaning tool’s microfiber cloth or to the reader’s enclosure. These may scratch the glass or damage the plastic.

1. Ensure the reader is connected to the PC and powered up.

2. Press and hold the Rescan button for 1 second. This will cause the card ejector to drop to the fully “Down” position

  • Apply a mild glass cleaner to the cleaning tool’s microfiber cloth, or dampen it slightly with water.

  • Insert the cleaning tool into the reader’s document slot until it bottoms out. You will be able to see the cleaning tool in the Camera Test image.

Note: Do not force the cleaning tool into the document slot with the eject mechanism in the Up position. If you force the mechanism down it will attempt to return to the Up position. Refer to step 4 above to move the eject mechanism to the Down position.

  • Move the tool up and down, and back and forth, in the slot to clean the internal glass windows on either side of the slot.

Note: Some small dust particles will likely always remain visible against the reader’s internal black background. This is normal and will not affect image quality or performance.

  • Remove the cleaning tool from the slot.

  • Clean the body of the reader using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or mild detergent.

  • Power cycle the reader by disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable or switching Off and On the cradle.

  • Verify that the power-up self test performs correctly.
